Meet the artist: Amelia Humber
Hear from our founder Sebastian Wrong on why Amelia's landscapes inspire him.
Hues of the ocean and breezy greenery seep into the paintings of British artist Amelia Humber. The latest artist addition to the Wrong Shop, Amelia lives and works in East London, from the studio nestled at the end of her garden. Although geographically distant from the rural landscapes that fuel her work, Amelia embarks on journeys across the UK. Immersed in these diverse environments, she absorbs the essence of her surroundings.
To mark the release of her new edition prints, exclusively for the Wrong Shop, our founder Sebastian Wrong talks us through how he came to find Amelia's work and what draws him into her landscapes. Keep reading or shop the new prints here.
"I came across Amelia’s work about a year ago via a framing workshop in London, where I was immediately struck by their beautiful energy. Amelia journeys around the UK to find the rural landscapes that fuel her work, be it the Cornish coast or the Scottish Highlands. Within the solace of the studio at the end of her East London garden, consulting photographs and notes from her excursions, she translates the imprints of her travels into her paintings.
Her fascination with the landscape is rooted in a childhood spent in the Sussex countryside; exploring the South Downs, she cultivated a connection with the ever-changing skies and their impact on the land. I find her work sits really well in the colourscape / landscape space. It has a wide appeal and captures the beauty and drama of the environment she’s painting in a timeless yet contemporary aesthetic. Amelia’s work has a beautiful energy that's accessible to all ages and the pictures have a quite raw power that offers a distraction from contemporary digital culture.
Her work decompresses the mind and gives the viewer a space to dream. Amelia’s original oil paintings have been exhibited across the UK and her three new works for us are a chance to collect her unique landscapes as more accessible limited-edition prints."
