Leanne Shapton avidly documents the human experiences through beautiful writing and visuals.
Renowned artist, writer and publisher, Canadian-born Leanne Shapton is now based in NYC, and made her name as art director of The New York Times Op-Ed page. She is now art directing The New York Review of Books. Stories haunt her process and paintings. Written words layer with watercolour, found photographs with washes of ink. She explores pattern in nature - the symbiosis between chaos and order - through her beguilingly soft, sparse style. She teaches in the creative writing department at Columbia University School of the Arts. Shapton is a fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society.

Her works have appeared in various publications such as The New York Times, Granta, and The New Yorker.
Shapton is co-founder of J&L Books, a not-for-profit imprint supporting emerging artists.
